How do I change the speed of my Internet connection?

For a long time if I put the mouse on my Internet connection icon, it always displayed, the speed 100.0 Mbps. Now shows that 10.0 Mbps. How can I change this setting by Windows XP? Has anyone had this problem? Each Help would be greatly appreciated. Remember, I am not the Tech Savy, then a little explanation is necessary. Thank you.
