How to handle a slip in a front-wheel drive

Most cars today are front-wheel drive. This is because both are mechanically easier to design and dynamic management is seen as more benign, if a driver goes into a run. In essence, there are three ways in which a driver can skate wheels, while accelerating, braking or during the recovery curves and each differs.

Drag a front-wheel drive in acceleration
If the road surface is slippery due to ice or rain, or used too much throttle, then the front wheels is likely to drag. In high-powered cars with front wheel drive, this can also result in pulling the steering wheel in both direction the car difficult to hold steady in a straight line and this is known as torque steer.

To keep the wheels turning in this situation has to gently lift the throttle, the front wheels regain traction and forward drive is restored. This slippage is usually preventable and can be anticipated if for example, is emerging from an uphill start and the road is wet or if there is snow on the road. However, if you're on the ice and the grip is very low, it would be better to try to get away in second gear by slipping the clutch slightly. The purpose is to reduce the torque through the front wheels and give better traction.

Drag a front wheel under braking
If you lock the front wheels under heavy braking, then your ability to lead will be lost and if this happens on the ice or slippery roads, so will their ability to reduce speed. To exit the skid Carefully release the brake pedal to stop skating and start the front wheels to turn again to reapply the brakes with less force.

Normally there will be no need for the above procedure as the most modern road cars are equipped with ABS anti-lock braking system call, which will perform the same process hundreds of times per second, so you can maintain direction while heavy braking control. This usually feels like a vibration through the brake pedal graunching accompanied by a loud noise. While ABS is an important safety aid can not do miracles and it will take longer to stop in a wet road in a dry place.

Drag a front wheel drive car while cornering, causing understeer
When turned front wheel drive car, the front wheels have to deal with both energy supply and implementation of a turning force. If you enter a corner too fast, the front wheels lose grip and start to slip, this problem is more likely to occur at night, where the light of his flashlight car light bulbs may not appear the radius of curve fitting a curve. The car will go straight, regardless of the amount of movement of the direction you used, and this effect is called understeer.

Often, when an inexperienced driver feel your car start to understeer than panic and try to solve the problem when braking hard. This only worsens the understeer and makes you more likely to plow in the path of an oncoming car or the road and straight into a hedge. You must avoid the temptation to slow down and instead aggressively if you start to feel the car understeer gently lift off the throttle, the adherence to return and the government enter in effect again.

Drag a front wheel drive car while cornering, causing oversteer
Another type of slip can happen to a car front wheel traction in the corners, and is called oversteer. It is very rare for a road driver to experience this type of slip, as oversteer normally only occur in very high-speed curves, when the driver has experienced a strong acceleration off the road halfway through the corner. When a car is rear wheel oversteer slide to the outside of the turn, and this is offset in a front-wheel drive by pressing down hard on the accelerator to pull the vehicle off the slide.

While it may seem more natural to hit the brakes if a front wheel drive car is oversteer This would be a grave error. Braking would put more weight on the front wheels of the car, causing the rear wheels to skate more, oversteer and will likely worsen you will spin off the road and the nearest hedge backwards.
