What engine swap is best for 1995 Eagle Talon ESI?

i have an eagle talon ESI that i’ve had for about three months and i race every once in a while and was wondering what is the best engine for the car now a days. i would aslo want to turbo it so it helps a little. let me know about prices to on different engines!

Well there’s not much you can do without some sort of heavy modification.

6 Bolts are good, but when it comes to 420a engines (Your non turbo engine) it doesn’t matter much. Crankwalk barely happens on those anyway.

To be honest, don’t even try boosting a 420a. There’s no point to it. The main thing is that the 420a is a great engine, but is not in any way built for boost. The most you could boost stock would be like 7-8psi and trust me, that’s like a snail crawling. If you boosted any more than 10psi on stock internals, your engine would quickly fail. Trust me, I know. I’ve worked on more DSMs than I can remember and have owned both ESIs and TSIs.

Let me put it this way, the money you’d spend on trying to get your non turbo 420a to safely run 15psi, and reach the power of a 4G63T (TSI, GST, GSX engine w/ turbo) , you could have easily saved, and sold your ESI and bought a GST or better yet a GSX or TSI AWD.

You’d need rods, cranks, pistons, cams, gears, etc…

Then after you were actually able to support some decent boost, like 12-16psi on a 420a, you’d need bigger fuel injectors, bigger fuel pump, fuel management, etc…

So in one sentence, you wanna save money and be fast? Buy a Turbo eclipse or Talon. All wheel drive preferred and sell the ESI.

If you do have lots of money to blow around, go for it and boost a 420a. Oh and the ebay turbo kits are garbage, unless you want your engine to blow very quickly, don’t touch them.

So you’re looking at about 1,000 to 2,000 just to run a shitty amount of boost.

Btw, the stock Turbo 4G63 internals can handle roughly 400whp, give or take.

So if you have alot of patience and good mechanics, or good knowledge of DSMs, swap a 4G63T in there. You can usually a nice built one for about 1,000. Or just go to your local craigslist, and find the blocks or complete engines for 300-400. (Those prices are around my area)

No offense, but 420a is basically crap. Amazing engine for durability and stability, but not very powerful. Still beats hondas tho. lolz.

P.S I have a 95 Talon TSI AWD that still is street legal and pushes around 360whp. All for about $2,000 in parts.
